"One of the leading figures of the early avant-garde cinema, Maya Deren, was also a dancer and a choreographer.

She became fascinated by religious possession in dancing and between 1947 and 1957 travelled several times to Haiti to record 18.000 ft of of Vodoun rituals.

It was nearly two decades after her death in 1961 that her husband started editing the material, resulting in this posthumously released documentary."
